Goodbye, Farewell and Amen

This is the end of the guy’s Apartment. It reminds me of my last days of college. My group of friends used to hang around in a specific apartment of four of us, a place we used to call “The Apartment,” with capital letters. It was a home away from home for all of us, full of video games, fun and, most important, camaraderie. This is the place where we played Goldeneye 64, where we used to get drunk, where we sought refuge from a hard day of class.

I miss that place.

The week before we graduated, we had a huge toga party in my house. As I was driving to The Apartment to pick up some things for the party, it dawned on me that this moment, this particular moment, was the last time I would drive to The Apartment. That night would be the last moment we would all spend together. It was hard. It’s been twelve years and I still remember that instant, and I still remember what I felt. And I was right. In these dozen years we haven’t been all together in a room. Sure, we’ve seen each other throughout the years, but the whole group hasn’t been together since that night.

And thus ended an era for me, as it ends now for the guys. Their lives are changing, and our story is coming to an finale. But don’t worry, this just means that a new season of The World According to Geek is approaching. You just wait for it!

Waaaaait for iiiiit!
